FORD 5000 SOS TRANSMISSION

Ford 5000 tractor w/SOS transmission. I had blown a hydaulic line and disengaged the tow lever to pull it 2 miles to home. Made repairs, refilled transmission, moved the tow lever back.
Started tractor put in gear but won't move in any gear. It sounds like its trying to go but no movement at all. Any ideas?

I've never disengaged the traction disconnect on my 5000 but I have disengaged it on my 971 so I'm not sure if they operate the same. On the 971 you are actually moving a driveline coupler and if you don't do it correctly the lever can become disengaged from the coupler. If the 5000 works the same way perhaps your lever and coupler may have separated and you have not re-engaged the coupler even though you moved the lever.

Can you still roll the tractor? If you can it's the coupler. If not start the tractor let it idle in park the trans may have lost prime.

With the coupler in the engaged position I cannot roll the tractor even in neutral. When I move it down to the disengaged postion it will roll. It likes like something might be jammed.

It will roll with the coupler disengaged but not with the the coupler engaged. If it lost it's prime will idling it in park take awhile. or is there a way to prime it again. this may be the problem I had to put about 3 gallon of fluid back in to fill it up. When it is running it sounds like it wants to go into gear.

This may be a useless question, but you did fill the transmission and not just the read end and hydraulics didn't you? The SOS transmission is a separate hydraulic reservoir from the hydraulics and rear end, even on a 5000.

That may be the problem. What I filled was through a plug under the seat And the fill level plug was behind the axle. Where is the fill and the fill level plug for the transmission?

Most SOS fill/level plugs are on the right side, just ahead of and below the running board, Would guess 5000 to be there too, but not sure.

There is a pipe plug on the right side in front of the brake pedals and to the rear of a 4 bolt servo cover.

I removed the Check/Fill plug on my 5000 and replaced it with a "street ell" fitting. It is much easier to add fluid now.
