Re: What oil for old Ford in reply to MarkB_MI, 11-09-2013 04:20:37
15/40 has a cold pour point like 30 oil.I cant use 15/40 in my Ford pickup.Erratic oil pressure readings and raps on startup made me drain the 15/40.10/ 30 stopped the noise.Owners manual says 15/40 is ok above 32 degrees.195,000 miles and a worn oil pump can make a difference. My wife had a high milage 89 Mercury that did the same thing with 15/40 when the weather turned cold.If you thing 15/40 is good put a sample in a jar into the freezer.Put a sample of 10/30 along side it and come back and tell us what you saw.

32 coupe, I d[d'nt know manufacturers,Ford or others, recommended 16/40 for there vehicles! Especially in the colder months you need to get the oil up to the valves and lifters. Most cars and trucks I've seen lately require 5/30 and some high performance cars today actually require 0/20 synthetic! GT65
