Hi All,
Been posting about a Ford 600 that I picked up at auction bout a month ago....set up with a loader/backhoe! It's running great now.....but I need some guidance on a few things till my parts book and manuals come......does anyone have any pics of the port side of the tractor.......I need to see how the air cleaner and exhaust look.....well .....the way they are supposed to.

The exhaust is just cut flush with the hood.....I know sometimes you have to make mods to accommodate a loader.....but ....oh my.......regarding the air cleaner.....looks like stuff is missing.......any pics so I could start to right this mess would be greatly appreciated......oh....and he took out the safety switch from the ignition circuit .....gonna remedy that one fast.......damn thing starts in gear!!!

not the best pics.. but gives you an idea..

ps.. this machine is a combination of mainly 2 tractors, plus a few odd parts i had kicking around.. so it's not a 'correct' 2000.. just so you know..... so the air cleaner may look different than yours.. etc. but in general.. it will be close to a 600 / 601

I put a vertical exhaust on mine to clear the loader.
I couldn't find a picture of mine, but found this one online.
At least it gives you an idea of how it hooks up.

Perfect actually.......I am missing the louvre and whatever is behind it that fits into the top of the cleaner.....easy enough.....as for the exhaust......at the front end of the muffler, where yours points straight down.....mine is cut off at the elbow....and points 90 degrees ...or right at your chest.....is that a factory exhaust on yours?......or did you make or have it made....and do you have yet another muffler back by the tires out of sight in that picture??.....that exhaust would work well in my application as it would be nowhere near the loader.....and we'll short of the backhoe!!....

Looks like that one is pristine....And Thanks!......Are you guys buying exhaust pieces from Ford?.....or.bending them yourselves...or a combination of both!!!

They sell them all here on YT, both vertical and under-slung.
They can also be bought other places or made at a muffler shop.
Nothing special about them except the bends in the right places.

factory exhaust. no other muffler under tractor.

I have seen some remov ethe muffler above the manifold and straight pipe them.. etc..

your cut and turned out exhaust is common... sounds like what you got.

SoundGuy........You ARE a very bad influence!!!......looks great.....but really........ Can one ever have too many. Tractors???.........do you paint and do the sheet metal work also??

"Can one ever have too many. Tractors???"

"If you know how many you have, you don't have enough!"
That's a quote I heard from Dale Haymaker. If you know any AC
fans, they'll probably know him. Great guy.

Anyway, take a look through the Project Journals on the left side
of the page here. Soundguy's got quite a few of them out there!

Your exhaust can run 2-3 different ways. no need to order a parts book, you have one right in front of you. Just search for Messicks, and search for parts for your tractor.

yep.. i do my own painting and body work.. electrical work.. mechanical repairs.. etc. .. even tires.. for now... getting harder to manhandle them though.. :)

I have a few pieces inthe project journals with start to finish pics

Another possibility is the cast elbow for up exhaust that is still available that was standard for the XX1 series. The inlet to the elbow from the muffler may be larger than required for your 600 but that could be easily rectified with some sheet metal. They are a little pricey but I saw one sell on ebay awhile back for way more than you can get one for at CNH.

You dont need the cast elbow, properly bent exhaust pipe does away with it and saves 150 bucks.More money to spend on gasoline.

No, you don't "NEED" the cast elbow, but if you have your headlights on, getting the two bends in that short distance along with a flat surface for the clamp to bear on, is very difficult on many of the the pipe bending machines. I have had pipes bent for up out of the muffler, one worked OK, the other is hard to keep in place.

Well I will just have to take a look.......This will be my first stab at the painting and such.....do you mind if I pick your brain on occasion?

go for it. will help in any way I can.

PS.. I'm no pro painter or mechanic. just got pretty decent at tinkering.
