Going to look at 4000 3cyl that has cat 2 3pt. All my equipment is cat 1. What is involved in using cat 1 equipment with cat 2 on tractor? Still need cat 1 for my other tractors for some of same equipment. Thanks, TP

A few bucks worth of Cat 1 link end balls and a toplink pin bushing for the implement end of the top link should be all you might need. Budget; about $16 or less.

Here's a photo of the end of a typical 4000 lift arm.
You can pry the ball out past the spring clip and replace it with a cat one ball.
Many implements have both cat one and cat two holes at the top of the 3 point so you can hook it to either size top link. My Ford plow, disc, York rake, Bush Hog and maybe a couple of others do.
I just never noticed the two sizes of holes till I got a cat 2 tractor.

Sometimes the balls have two holes, one each size.

Sometimes there's a set of the other size balls in the tool box.

Someone mentioned that the toolbox may be the best place to keep balls when there's nothing on the hitch. I guess the spring clips are not all that reliable.

"...not all that reliable" is an understatement,
even when they were new! I'll bet there are at least
8 balls from our 4600 scattered around our 300 crop
acres, mostly from the first few years we had it. We
finally got smart enough to put them in the toolbox,
but not before trying tying them in...the twine just
wears through, and you loose them anyway. (at least
I don't have to claim responsibility for that - I
was only 7 when it was new)
