Timing marks are on the flywheel, there is a little door on the flywheel housing on the same side as the pump. Groove in the side of the window should line up with 21 degrees on the flywheel.

There is an idicator just above the coupling which has a notch in, this should line up with a mark on the pump coupling.

If you cannot see the mark, rotate the engine and line up the 21 degree mark again.

The engine is the same as a New Performance Super Major that was sold as the Ford 5000 in the US

Awesome, I think I have it now...#1 coming up on compression, the timing mark should show in the window in the bell housing, and at that point the mark on the tab of the pump should line up with the mark on the coupler.

That is it exactly. Just another tip, you are on Number 1 when the clamp bolt holding the pump drive to the shaft is below the shaft.

An additional question, I pulled the rocker cover (working solo here) and rotated the engine until the #1 ex valve started to open, then back off a bit to close it...should be at or neat TDC...

Question is, should there be a 'TDC" mark on the flywheel?...I can locate it..but still might be off a few degrees.

Okay...we're having some contact now!!!

I started off i your suggested spot, had my nehew come over and keep rotating the crank BTDC and finally came to a line a stamping that is either a DC or BC or OC...something "C"...is this where I time the pump too?

It appears as I mentioned before, it would correspond to me pulling the pump and re-indexing it-based on how the pump was rotated in the coupler.

2nd question...mercy...do I use the "center punched dot" on the coupler, or what appears to be a chisel line/scribe?

Both will require me to re-index the pump...but appear to be about a tooth off from each other (guesstimate).

The flywheel should be marked in a series of degrees leading to TDC. The mark on the pump will be on the pump side of the coupling. Will see if I can get some pictures for you.

I found the timing marks and have it at 21 in the notch...my marks on pump side of the coupling are way off from the pump timing tab (similar, but worse in the one pic I showed "where I left off")...I assume I have to pull the pump back a bit and rotate it so the bolts use the other set of "gaps" in the coupler, I certainly don't have enough adjustment to get the slots lined up.

And the more I look at it, it alsmost seems that the pump was pulled via the adjusting bolts, and not put in correctly...gonna see if removing the bolts alow me to get it where I "think" it should be...
