Ford 631 3 point lift arms - how low is normal?

Hi,
I have a 58 Ford 631 with pto and live hydraulics. I was wondering what is the normal height of the lift arms when in position control and the fully low position? In draft mode and in the low position, it extends very low, within inches of the ground. In position control, it's probably 3 or 4 inches higher. Is there any adjustment on the 3 point lifts position range?
Thanks!

They do go pretty low, depends a bit on the tires on how close to the ground they go. No, there isn't really an adjustment.

That being said, you should have full control over the position of the arms in position control mode. Starting with the arms all the way down you should be able to move the touch control and set them at any particular level along the way. If you can do this, then the cam and follower pin inside the cover may be worn or out of adjustment.

In draft mode you will not be able to control the position of the arms as that is not what is intended. Moving the touch control off the top stop should drop the arms all the way down. In draft mode the touch control works to set the amount of "load" the implement exerts on the tractor. The tractor may raise and lower the implement to keep that same amount of "pull" on the tractor. It gets this input from the pushback on the center link.

So, long winded explanation, but if you cannot control your arms in their full range with position control, time to pull the cover.

ou told him that there is no adjustment for his problem (arms go 3-4 inches lower in draft than position), so............what is pulling the cover going to accomplish?

If he has no resolution in the touch control, the pin and cam may be worn...

I have an 8N, Jubilee, 640 and 960. All will drop 3 inches or
so lower in draft mode then they do in position control mode.
If that's the only problem you're having, I would consider it normal.

Thanks for the info. The only issue is trying to setup implements when the pins are significantly lower than the arms will go in position control mode. I suppose I can go to draft mode to get to that point, then switch and save the back!

I haven't measured the heigth of my 3 pt arms, but I'd guess
they are within 6 inches of the ground even in position control.
If you have an implement that sets that low, is it something you
can set on blocks when you unhook it?
I do that with my stuff anyway, just to keep it out of the dirt.
Plus it makes it easier for me.
