Had a low-houred 4100 Ford with factory canopy, raked with it all summer. Really liked it, geared nice, shifted smoothly, handled great, but it was loud, offensively loud. Are all 4100s loud?

I take it you're fairly smart. :)
Yeah those 3 cyl Fords are bloody noisy.
The diesels anyway.
You can convert the exhaust to a down pipe so it goes out under the rear axle and it'll be much quieter.
Of course then you'll choke on the stinking diesel when you hook up and implement.
But if you're reasonably smart you can do that quickly...

The canopy is going to make it a little louder, You could glue some fabric or some sort of foam to the underside.

The gasers are loud as well.

I once owned a 66 4000 gasoline S-O-S, and it was very loud.

Mine had a Stanley muffler. I expect that a reverse flow muffler would have quieted it down substantially.

My 4000 was loud when I got it, and I changed muffler type and its very quiet now.

My Dexta was noisy, and I bought a Stanley F04 and welded the adapters to it, and applied a rain cap, and it's quiet too. My other Dextas did the same to them. My muffler all have the change of direction baffles, a flat and wide muffler. Still have those old mufflers and the difference is drastic.

Power is the same.
