Anybody able to tell me if i have a 172 0r 192 motor with these numbers off block EAF_6015_J SER# 7468-LiiCT

Judging by your handle you have a 740 Ford tractor. They used a 134 cubic inch block as standard equipment. Just checked the block number on my 57 model 640 and its EAE6015J and its a 134 cubic inch engine. Your 740 should have the same engine unless the engine has been replaced over the last 50+ years. What are some ways to tell between the 172 and 192? I have an early 4000 4cyl that I thought was a 172. I had someone point out that the 4000 diesel motor has a much larger valve cover than my 860 gas with a 172.

Ignoring decals, accessories, etc., the 192 gasers look identical to the 172 gasers, externally.

Absent OEM decals, etc., you must check casting numbers to definitively determine the difference.

EAF6015 was 172 cu", EAE6015 was 134cu". these were used in 1955 t0 1957. the early thousand series used numbers that were conn- . the 134 block was conn-6015c and the 172 block was conn-6015j. this info is from john smith's site, and he is pretty accurate. maybe you have a 1955 to 1957 block that was swapped up into the tractor. i have two early 4000s and they both have the CONN6015j blocks. hope this helps

yea, and the head is wider. block is the same width. i have the 172 in both gas and diesel. valve cover is almost half again wide. you also have the injectors inside the cover, plus the return line is inside there too.
