5000 Parking brake

Tired of reaching for the floorboard to set the parking brake.

Will the t-handle from a later model...say a 6600 or 5610 work if I also buy the bracket that bolts to the tranny?

Anybody have specific suggestions?

Thanks

Fred

Ford has/had an extension that raised the handle up to the top of the tranny. No idea if it's still available. Ultradog posted a picture a while back of a farmerized one on his new-to-him 4000. If you search old posts, it should come up - give you an idea how to make what you need.

I'm less familiar with the 5000s than I am the 2/3/4000 size.
On the 26/46/4600 tractors Ford installed a T handle and bracket that made it easier to reach.
I had to slightly enlarge the hole in the 3000 step plate to make it work. I like it a lot better. I assume the 56/6600 tractors would be the same.
The second photo shows the farmerized T handle Fordfarmer mentioned on a 4000 I recently bought.
It works surprisingly well so that I think I will leave it on there.

I looked up a 5000 on the NH parts site... Nothing listed, other than what you already have. Punch in 5600 (or 6600 or 7600) and the bracket and longer handle that my 7000 now has shows up. So our dealer just used parts from a x600 to update my 7000. Parts #43 (p/n D5NN2824B) and #45 (p/n 83907216)in their diagram.

If the OEM parts are too expensive you can do it yourself. I made a new bracket out of 1/4 inch thick flatstock and mounted it to 2 existing bolts on of the top edge of the tranmission. I put the round hole with 2 key slots in it and then extended the connecting rod with some all thread and coupling nut.

When I posted this the other night, I was unable to look up parts/ prices on Messicks.

Yesterday I could.

NH is kinda proud of these things.

Took my t-handle , cut it and welded in a piece of steel step in fence post, and made a plate.

So an hour and 20 minutes in the shop (not counting the paint drying) and there's probably $120 I didn't spend...that's pretty good wages in my book.

Thanks for all the replies.

When I was apprenticing (industrial electrician) I worked with a journeyman for a while rehabbing machines...had to take a lot of my switch brackets back off to round/smooth the corners to suit him...the lesson stuck.

Usually I would just gone ahead and done something like this, but I had to go to town Saturday anyway, and thought maybe 25 bucks I'll just get one and put it on and save some time.

Then I saw how much they cost....
