Have I missed anything?

Trying to put together a list of everything I'll need to get this tractor back up and running. Here's what I got in mind so far:
Honed crank-$400-450
New rod-$105
New rod bearings-$50
New main bearings-$90
Gaskets-this I'm not sure of. I already have the upper set with head gasket. I know I'll need an oil pan gasket, but I'm sure I'll need more that that if I'm taking the crank out. Should I just order the lower set?$75

This is my list so far, and it addss up to around $700. A lot, but much less than a new tractor.

My best advice (take or leave it) is to get someone who has rebuilt engines for a living ( not Bubba who has honed a block and installed new rings) to look it over and help you, yeah you will probably have to pay him but at least you will have a 10,000 hour engine instead of a 2 hour engine. I offered if you were in my area but you did not respond. You are on course for a very expensive lesson. HTH
Greg.

Thanks, Greg, I would completely agree with you! I do live somewhat close to you...I live in extreme SW Indiana, Mt Vernon to be exact. I have just found out about a local guy that has been restoring Ford tractors his whole life, entering them in national competitions, the whole nine yards. I am going to give him a ring today to see what help he is willing to give me. If he doesn't pan out, I would appreciate anything you could do.

Ok, good deal. I just hate to see someone who does not know with just advice from bubba put their hard earned money into something without checking everything just to have it fail again. Just because they said it was rebuilt before you bought it does not mean it was done properly as you have found out. You are about three hours from me.

Need to determine why the rod bearing failed. Was it lack of oil or oil pressure. Must have oil pump checked at a minimum. More $$$.

Also, need to clean up all the debris from the failure, or it will do it again.

I would defiantly call a real mechanic, no offense but judging by your posts this is beyond you. If you don't find the cause and repair it you will be tearing it down again. Do you have a picture of the bearing and crankshaft, perhaps we can assist you in finding the cause. Usually best to treat it like a crime scene don't clean it up to much because you could be cleaning up clues. Mike
