7710 dual power problems

My dual power does not want to work. It was working, but would have a "delayed" reaction when shifting from low to high. The tractor used to jerk back and forth (sometimes) when shifting from low to high, before finally kicking into high. Now it doesn't do anything. I replaced the switch on the floor, but that didn't help. I think its something with the solenoid valve? The repair book shows the valve body bolting on the side of the dual power housing? So I would assume the tractor would need to be split to access the solenoid valve?? Help! Rod or Bern or anyone with experience in this department.

You need to take pressure readings in order to narrow down where the problem most likely is. But unless you pressure is constantly low a split will be required.

Doesn't the PTO run off the same circuit as the dual power? The PTO works great, so how could it be a pressure issue?

Valve comes out the side of the trans on the 10 series - no need to split.

My guess would be a faulty solenoid. Make sure you have power going to it when you are in high, and if that checks out, then check the resistance of the coil. I don't have a spec in front of me, but it should not be 0, or infinite.

I'd probably check the pressures just to be sure... but it does sound like a lazy solenoid.
As Bern said, no need to split. You will probably need to take that cab mount off tho.

cab does not need to come off but the right side cab mount does. Ford only sells the valve assembly $650 but I got a new solenoid from NC Tractor Spares on the web for $175 with shipping but it took about 3 weeks.

If you truly only need the solenoid, search the archives. Dieselpup recently had the same issue on a 7710 and was able to find a replacement one through Bobcat. I don't have the part number on hand but it is posted in the archives. I think he got it for around $30.
