740 Ford row crop Hi Clearence

I just came across a 1956 740 Ford tractor for sale and I have no idea what the value of this tractor might be. It cranks and runs good, looks ok , sheet metal is good to average, and all gears are good as well as the clutch. Brakes are ok but may need adjusting or replacing . Pretty descent old tractor. Can some one or several of y'all give me some idea of what it's worth. Thanks a bunch.

Biggest considerations are location and tires.
Tires are very pricey.
I paid $1200 for my 960 with good tires all around.
$1500 for a 4000 Row Crop SOS with new rear tires and junk fronts.
Both great running tractors, no smoke, no knocks, etc.
I'm in central Michigan. They sell higher in other locations.

A 740 is 'rare' as Fords go...around here at least. Because of this, a 740 will bring more than a 900 or 901 series. From your description, and depending on what the tires are like, probably $2000-3500 here... less than that, jump on it. I've seen them advertised as high as $5500.

I am not sure but the owner called it a high clearence. It is not a straight axle like the N series. It does have the off set axle with bull gears. I'm not familier with this type tractor so that's why I'm asking for help. The tractor has one new front tire and one new rear tire.

No, it wouldn't be a straight wide front like an N series if it's a 740.
It would be a row crop tractor with adjustable width rear end and
most likely a tricycle from end like this one being use for pulling.
Compliments of forum member Ford740 who just happens to kick
butt with this when he's pullin'!
(the stock rear tires would not be this tall)

Yes this tractor is just like the one in the picture, except rear
tires are not that tall. I think this one has 11x28's. I will post
some pictures as soon as I can.

Hi crop would have the big tires, something like 38" and would also be marked in your model numbers on the flat spot on the bellhousing just behind the starter. 11x28 tire would be a standard row crop. It would look more like my '55 950 with either 6 loop or power adjusted rims.
Ford row crops are not that popular in my area. they are currently selling from $1800/$2500
