Ford 851 Power Adjust wheels

I am missing one of the wedges and bolt that holds the wheel to the center dish. I am trying to get parts for my grandpas tractor so I don't have pictures. I found a picture online though of the same kind of power adjust wheels that his 851 has. Where can I get the wedges? It looks like it just needs a carriage bolt too once I get a wheel wedge. Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm thinking you'll have to search the bone yards for these. You could check with your NH dealer for availability, but I have my doubts. And if it is still available it'll be pricey.

Additionally, not all the wedges were identical. There were three alike and then a fourth one that was unique. It theoretically could be clamped anywhere in the adjusting track to stop the adjustment at any given spot.

The original bolts in these wheels were not just carriage bolts. They were fine threaded and had an elongated shoulder that was swedged into the wheel so that it stayed in place when the nut was removed. They also had a heavier head than a common carriage bolt.

The bolts are fine thread and hard. They are available from CNH but no inexpensive. You cannot use a grade 2 carriage bolt as these bolts must be VERY tight.

You will need to search salvage yards for the clamp unless someone here replys with spares.

That appears to be a 951 not an 851. The 801 series was a utility type tractor and that picture shows a row crop tractor like the 701/901 series. The 801 series where wide front tractors and the 701/901 where trikes like the picture shows. Just for you info by the way

If the rims on that 4000 are what you have, here are
pictures of the two different kinds of clamps on mine.

One of these on each wheel:

Three of these on each wheel:

The odd one is the spacer clamp. It is used to accurately set wheel spacing.

Be CERTAIN to mount it in the proper position upon inatallation or it will be broken as most are.

(quoted from post at 16:12:43 09/15/13) The picture shows a 4000 RC, not a 951 or 851.

TheBigYellowTruck was posting a picture he found on the internet
with the same style of rims. The one he is working on is an x01.
Not the one he posted the picture of, it just has the same rims.
I agree the picture is a 4000 RC, he said he didn't have a pic of
his grandpa's tractor that he is working on.
Hopefully we have him the right information as far as the wedges.
I thought I had part numbers for them here some where, but I can't find them. :(

sorry for the confusion guys. The tractor is an 851. I was just posting the 4000 as a reference to the wheels. I was there messing with the tractor today and it has the wheels like what Royse posted close ups of. The one wheel has all of the clamps/wedges and the other is missing one. however, even the wheel with all of the clamps/wedges has the type in the bottom picture posted by Royse. none are like the top.

Honestly, unless you are farming in a manner that makes you
adjust them often, I would not worry about what kind they are.
I [b:55e735f897]would[/b:55e735f897] try to find a replacement for that one missing wedge.
In the mean time, I would bolt it tight with a grade 8 bolt, washer and nut.
Other than that, clamp them down tight where you need them and run 'em.
Check them to make sure they don't come loose, but you have
to do that no matter which ones are on it.
Let my beatings begin. LOL

I don't think we were confused. We were just reacting to old's comments which had absolutely no bearing on your situation and had identified the pictured rig wrongly to boot!

If you're not concerned about creating a show tractor and just want one that works, 4 of the second type of clamp will work. However, if you want the stop feature or a factory correct system, you'll have to hunt for the upper one.

its not a show tractor by far. he just bought the
tractor so he can bush hog some parts of his
property. the tractor wont be used much, but i want
to make it as safe as possible for him to operate.
He's a double amputee because of circulation issues
in his feet from diabetes so it takes him about a
minute to get on and off of the tractor. if a rear
wheel were to come off I don't think he would fair
to well.
