son in law inhereited a naa and it has a bad noisy water pump. searched this site for info and couldn't find out if you have to pull the sheet metal or can it be done otherwise. suspect i'll be pulling the sheet metal. any advice? what to watch out for. thanks....fred

It can be done with out removing the sheet metal or radiator but it is tight. One of the best things you can do to help your self is buy an FO-19 I-T manual

You don't really gain much by removing the hood because
of the way the radiator is mounted close to the gas tank.
Unless you're going to remove the radiator also.
Removing the dog legs may get you a little more arm room.
This picture is a 640, but shows what I'm talking about.

Yep them fins are like razor blades and boy of boy they sure can make a mess of a guys hands fast LOL

Is the water pump drive pulley pressed onto the water pump shaft.

If so, you will need the exact measurements on the old pump, to be sure you get it pressed onto the proper place on the new shaft.

Just check this.

thanks guys for the info. headed for steiners this week and will see if they have the fo-19. found a new radiator in the box so I will probably pull the sheet metal. the old rad looks ok and i'm wondering if it was loosing coolant from the water pump and they didn't know it and assumed it was the rad. I just ran it long enough to load and unload it from the trailer. someone in the archives was complaining about the attachment bolts were breaking. Is this normal? thanks again.....fred

Breaking when running, or when trying to take them off?
I haven't had them break while running.
When taking them off, that's usually a matter of the care you take.
If you don't need one of those radiators, I could use it.
What part of Michigan are you in? I'm in Ionia County.
