861 Diesel air intake

A friend of mine purchased an 861 Diesel that he wants to restore. He recalls that originally these tractors had a boxy air cleaner mounted to the intake. His tractor has been retrofitted with a cylindrical air cleaner on the side of the hood. He would like to find the original style. Does anyone know if these are available, and if so, where?

Have heard the "boxy" ones rust out. Perhaps that is what happened and then it was retrofitted with one from a gasser...

Junks yards would be best bet to find a boxy one.

It is true that they rusted out once the tractor was no longer in daily use. I expect that they will be very hard to find

Thanks for your input guys. I am afraid too that they will be very hard to find.

If you really want to be original, you will need the air tube from that box, that goes under the battery and ends up at the air cleaner inlet louvers, on the side of the hood as the gas jobbys do. That is the way the very first diesels were plumbed

Please check and let me know. I would be delighted to find an original for him.

My 971D has the square box and a tube that goes up beside the hood and is topped off with a pre-cleaner.

Texas!,What kind of work do they need? Could they be repaired? Do you have the pipe that goes up to the inlet screen? I have not heard from Rogi. I am interested in what you have. Reply to post or send e-mail.
