I am looking at a Ford 755 backhoe, owned by the county. The tranny is slipping,so it moves real slow.
A friend who works there said it had NEVER been serviced, and a complete servicing would probably fix it.
What do you guys think about it?

FYI: the hoe (only) is a 755.

Fortunately for sorting out what you really have, the only thing a 755 came attached to (AFAIK) is a 4500 (the tractor). There are multiple possible transmissions, though 4 speed power reversing seems a likely guess - but that's guessing. Better insight might be available if you could nail that down.

The loader (only) is a 740.

These numbers may help you search for more relevant information. For what it's worth (not much at all) my 753 hoe on a 4500 has a 6/4 manual, and my non-hoe 4500 has the 4 speed power reverse.

ust curious. Did you ever buy the 755 hoe? I've got one myself. The tranny would probably be the most expensive thing to fix on that machine. When I got mine 8 yrs ago, a NH mechanic said those 755 TLBs were pretty bulletproof, particularly the trans. As for moving slow, it COULD be the air filter. If it had never been serviced, there's a chance the air filter is clogged. couple years back, mine would barely move, Motor rpms were low, though. Removed the air filter and ran fine, so a simple air filter change may be all it needs.
