I'm going to look at a couple of 6000s today. Anything in particular I should look for. Don't know condition or price yet and I'm only familiar with the 2000. They've been for sale for the last month. I need something a little bigger than 40 HP that I have now and I only do about 2000 bales/yr so it should fill the bill for me.
Any advice to give?

I believe that Ford made the first 6000 diesels with some poorly designed engine. Most of these early ones had SOS transmission and were pretty bad. They made some later ones that were decent tractors. Do not buy any of those early ones unless you need one for a collection. The early ones had 2 tone paint, light blue and off white, the later ones were standard ford colors.

I would suggeest you do some reading up on 6000s so you know what you are getting into. Don't get me wrong I am very happy with mine but I knew what I was getting into before I bought and I got it for a good price. If you don't know what a SOS is or how they work that would be something to read up on as well. Good luck.

Checked them out today. A '65 and a '67 Commander, both pretty rusty. The 65 runs good but has SOS issues. 67 runs good and has real good tires all around but blue exhaust smoke. He wants 3K for the pair with duals for one and repair manuals. Too much work, I have too many projects now. Anyone interested I'll pass along the location.
