Is this a 172 engine with the sleeves removed and then larger pistons installed? Are all other components the same? Was this made in a diesel? Considering changing my 4000D SOS to a 192 if not too much trouble other than pistons and increasing fuel delivery.

Though many parts are the same, the 192 is not a 172 without sleeves. Indeed most 172 engines do not have sleeves.

The block casting numbers are not the same.

Diesel versions of the four cylinder 192 engine were not made.

The outside diameter of a 172 sleeve is 4.10, the 192 had a bore of 4.130. I doubt that you could pull the sleeves and bore it .030 and have enough cylinder wall thickness for a diesel.
I have a 172 gas motor that has been overbored and sleeved to 4.165 and we didn"t hit a water jacket before sleeving. I did fill the block, but probably wouldn"t have had to. I have been told that Ford made a 192 diesel, but I have never seen one. You could contact Foley engines, they would know for sure. I doubt that the 20 cubic inches gained by going from a 172 to 192 on a diesel would be worth the effort to do it. IMHO I would work on the pump and injectors on the 172. If you building a puller, work on a gas engine, its easier to make it bigger with more HP that you will get from a diesel.

Hello Gene , The 192 GAS and DIESEL ENGINES have blocks that are 192 ONLY , they are not sleeveless 172's . Gas are very common DIESEL IS NOT , I just finished rebuilding two of them and have third one in the shop right now . Diesel pistons are no longer made but gas are still in production . I am looking in to producing the Diesel pistons right now , I am sure it will not be cheap but quality does not come from CHINA or INDIA where many of the JUNK aftermarket pistons are made today . Thanks Tony
