throttle wont stay on 601 work master

at the bottom end of the hand throttle shaft you will see a friction clutch that is adjustable. Tighten it a bit and the throttle should stay put.

I see two things that keep the throttle in the position you wish it to be in.

1. Behind the tube leading from the air cleaner to the carb there is a spring connected to the linkage behind the fresh air . This spring has a way of breaking and/or losing its tension.

2. In the same area as 1 above, within the linkage, there is a tension adjusting nut with a self-locking feature (split nut). This nut applies tension to a star shaped washer about 2 inches in diameter laying over a leather washer. Try to tighten this self-locking nut a few turns. If this doesn't work, think about replacing the leather washer.

I've had the same problem with two Fords because of oil soaking into the cork friction disk that's underneath that star-shaped doohickey referenced earlier. One was getting oil that was gushing from the power steering column, and the other was getting soaked from a nearby leaking hydraulic control. Fixed the leaks, changed the disks, and haven't had a problem since.

Good luck.
