My power steering fluid reservoir keeps belching out fluid out of the vent valve in the cover. No doubt it"s air. The question is, how do I get it out of the cylinder, pump, and lines? Help guys !!!

Air should work itself out of the system by turning the steering wheel from left full stop to right full stop and back a gain a few times. The only way there would be air in there on an ongoing basis is if there's a leak on the suction side of the pump.

The more likely cause of fluid coming out of the vent is that it is either over full or the filter is clogged. When was the filter last changed?

I have a similar problem. The fluid in the reservoir foams and comes out the top when I first start up. I think it has to do with places in the system where air is getting into the PS system. Also possible that cold fluid can't get thru the system fast enough and pushes out the top until it warms up.

I have been able to control this by keeping the reservoir at just enough fluid to cover the lower fill mark and watching the fluid level closely.

Thanks Sean.
It was probably changed in 1964 :) but if I understand what your saying is. The return line is dumping it back, faster than the filter will let it into the suction side of the pump. Makes sense to me. I will change the filter and see what happens.

Thanks everyone.
