3400 Spindle Left or Right?

I am not sure which of one of my 3400 spindles is left one and which is right? They are identical except for the "woodruff" key location. I marked "R" with magic marker on one when I removed them but that has disappeared. From the only picture I have prior to disassembling it looks like the steering arm might be slightly in front of the axle with the wheel straight?

Could someone please verify which is which for me? Steering arm in front or behind the axle.

When they are in the straight position the key way should be pointed slightly forward as it is in line with the spindle arm and will put the arm just ahead of the axle as you stated.
