Apparent worn throttle linkage

I have a several Ford 8Ns that I either own or work
on for friends. Some of them you have to move the
throttle lever half way along the quadrant before
anything happens and when you try to go back to idle
it's the same thing. I have put shimstock under the
long lever on the governer to take out the play
there with very limited success. Any suggestions?
This appears to me like a flaw in the original
design back in the day.

HIGHLY doubt it. More likely 60 years of wear.

Lack of throttle response is most likely worn parts in the governor. Whether it be fly balls/race, tension spring, or a bent rod.

Make sure you have the linkages correct. The long rod from the throttle goes to the long rod on the governor with the spring. Short one goes to the carb. Make sure the spring has no tension on it at idle. Other than that your going to have to open it up.

BTW...you'll get more help on the N board (1 down).

That's where I usually hang out
