Hello,

I just purchased a Ford 4610SU. I have been unable to find the information to decode the data plate. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Any pertinent information you can provide would be helpful.

Tractor number C745805
Model DS314C
Unit 5F28B
Engine 5D26A
Transmission 5E22B
Rear Axel 5E19B
Hyp Pump 5E24B
Hyd Lift 5F7A

The tractor number on the hood data plate matches the number stamped in the transmission casting.

Thanks,

John

Came off the assembly line on June 28, 1985, day shift.
C prefix on serial # says assembled in USA.
Someone else will have to interpret the model # for you.

Model DS314C

The DS3 at the beginning says that it's a 4610SU.
The 1 says that it has a diesel engine with a vertical exhaust.
The 4 says it has independent 540 rpm PTO
The C says that is has the 8 speed transmission.

Tractor number C745805 is the serial number. The C says that it was assembled at the plant in Michigan and the number is a 1985 serial number.

The rest are date codes.

Unit 5F28B is when the tractor itself left the assembly line - June 28 1985 day shift

Engine 5D26A is when the engine was assembled - April 26 1985 midnight shift

Transmission 5E22B is when the transmission was assembled - May 22 1985 day shift

Rear Axel 5E19B is when the rear axle was assembled - May 1985 day shift

Hyp Pump 5E24B is when te hydraulic pump was assembled - May 24 1985 day shift

Hyd Lift 5F7A is when the hydraulic lift was assembled - June 7 1985 midnight shift.

All,
thank you for the responses. This information will be helpful. Do any of you know if the IT brand manuals for this tractor are worthwhile? They state that they are only good for 1984 or prior models.

I will try to post a couple of pictures. I have yet to get the tractor home. When I do get it home I need to try and take care of a leak or two on the injector pump. It appears that the leaks are in the fittings. I also need to find a new lower radiator hose. I also want to change all the fluids once I find a good manual. Some cleaning up and I am hoping it will make a good tractor. It only has about 970 hours on it so it should not be worn out. The wheel bearings and king pins are all tight and the clutch seems to be in good shape. I'll feel a lot better after I have used it for a few months with no big problems.

Ok so you have a somewhat special SU tractor. The top or cover on it is somewhat rare and the flat top fenders are very rare on a SU. One thing to note is that SU's have a light front end on them which is what was used on Ford 3000's, 3610's, 3910's, 2810, 2910 etc. Its a sway back front end that is great for tight turning radius etc but not really designed for front end loaders. That being said you can use it and it will work just fine but be aware of that and don't abuse it. You may need to rebuild front end earlier than normal but not really a big issue as I just did my 4000SU. I personally love these tractors cause I do alot of wild-game food plots and these babies are perfect for bushhoging, disking etc in tight areas. You have a nice tractor and I would hang onto it. I would consider adding the adjustable sway brackets to the back hitch as it makes life alot simpler. Very good purchase and congrats.
