Get to drain a gas tank on a 200 tomorrow

Got this 3 cylinder 200 up and running for a guy the other day but it has a major water problem in the tank. Run it maybe 5-10 minutes and then drain the sediment bowl and carb. So tomorrow I will try to drain the tank. Drained off some the other day but boy was it flowing slow. Guess I might nee to bring a siphon hose with me just in case or is there a faster way with out a pump of some sort

It should run out of there at a pretty good rate.
There is a screen that sticks up into the tank on the shut off valve. When you get it drained you should unscrew the valve and clean the screen.

Flow rate out of the fuel line is very slow so that is why I asked. Unhooked the flue line a few days ago and in say 30 minutes got maybe a gallon of gas/water out which is way to slow. Of course the screen in the tank maybe clogged which could cause that also. Put a stick in the tank today and had around 6 inches of fuel/water show so I know it has to have 5 plus gal in it

Howdy Old,

You might try blowing some air back thru the line back into the tank to clear the screen in the bottom of the tank.

Or siphon it with a hose.

Rich, If you have or get one of those little $2.98 transfer siphons from the hardware, you can steel it around the bottom of the tank while sucking. This way you can get most of the water and crud while you siphon. Then if you have it siphoned into milk jugs you can pour the good gas off leaving behind the water and crud on the bottom.

I was thinking just some 3/8 gas hose to siphon with. Tried the HEET trick but that did not work so I guess it has a lot of water in the gas

don't recycle contaminated fuel....fuel's cheap use fresh and clean

unless messing w/fuel problems is your thing.......

If you use a simple hose to siphon with make sure you $uck on the other end good and long and hard to get it flowing good.
wink :)

Edit: Interesting. They banned the use of that word so I had to use the $ sign.

I picked up one of those $3 siphon tubes that has the bulb on it so no suction will be needed on my part LOL. Never did like the taste of gas when it was good and this stuff we have now is worse

(quoted from post at 13:14:17 07/07/13) I recycle it I throw it on a burn pile to make sure it is easy to start

Just a few days ago I dumped the contents of a small gas container into a milk jug because I noticed that I had the lid off for a little while when it was raining, I got a half a teaspoon of water in the bottom of the jug and poured the rest back into the gas container for my puller. The milk jug lets you separate gas from water and I don't see it as contaminated gas, because gas and water don't mix very well.

On this tractor I thought I had the problem gone till we drove it 100 yards and then the sediment owl was full of water again. I think it is most likely 50% water if not more. This guy had a stroke and this tractor has sat for 2 years with who know what not done to it

What else works real good is a outboard fuel line with primer bulb. The primer bulb works real well to get the siphon going...

Not when you use classic in modern it can be done but I do not use the modern side of the forums

I used dry gas in lawn mower tanks. You have to shake the mower to get the water to mix with the alcohol.Hard to shake a tractor. You can get water out of gas by running it thru a milk filter disc.Wet the filter with gas first and it will stop water.I always let the mowers run to get rid of the water gas mix. Some dry gas has methanol in it that will attack zinc based castings.

just went thru that on a 5000
after my patience ran out, I made a 'chute'
out of cardboard to a bucket, and then pulled the shutoff valve.
rebuilt the shutoff while it was draining

The problem with that method is that you will leave most of the solid/slime crud behind in the tank, to plug the strainer again.

Easy to shake a gas tank on a tractor just drive it LOL but the HEET did not work found that out real fast. Got the tank drained and then used a rag to soak up what did not drain plus got a good bit of rust out with the rag
