Ford 841 Hyd Pump failure, chipped drive gear

My Hydraulic Pump stopped working (and my tractor was overheating). I took off the Hyd pump and the teeth on the Camshaft Drive Gear inside the tractor housing were all chipped off - metal shavings around the pump drive gear and the tractor drive gear. I assume what happened is my pump failed, locked up, and the teeth chipped off as the tractor drive gears moved, and the pump gears did not. Plan to replace or get my Hyd pump replaced. Here is my question - how hard is it to replace the Camshaft Drive Gear inside the tractor - doesn't look like a weekend mechanic kind of job. HELP!

Its not too hard to get at that rear camshaft gear, but it requires a split and some front of engine work. A lot of wrenching, but nothing really that complicated.

Once you are in that far, it time for a clutch etc. Maybe time for engine rebuild. Ah, that mission creep shows it ugly head.

TXs for responding so quickly.

Based on what happened, and your experience, does what I think
happened make sense - the pump failed and the drive gear starting
busting teeth off?

I've heard of the teeth on the pump shearing off, but this the first time for the rear cam gear.

My concern is for what caused the failure. A bad relief valve can cause excessive loading on the pump until something fails. Maybe something else in the pump failed too. How where the hydraulics working before?

I keep my grader on the back 100% of the time and it was
working/lifting fine before the failure.

I have a local guy who, for a living, works on trucks and old
tractors. I think I am getting out of my league here so I will bring it
to him - I trust him 110%. Just need a way to get it there. :)

TXs!

My 960 did the same thing when the hyd pump bearing failed and locked the pump. When u split the tractor to replace the gear be sure to remove the oil pan and clean out all the metal chunks. I didn't and a month later the oil filter exploded from the the metal splinters clogging the relief valve. I managed to shut it off before the engine seised.
