Couple of 800 Series questions

So I have been gradually working on my grandfathers 860 as time and money allows. So here are the questions.

1. I pulled off the radiator intending to solder the split in the upper seem but there is some kind of baffle loose in the top does anyone know where it goes internally? Could it cause the tractor to overheat(possibly unrelated but I found there was no t-stat installed)? Is it worth it for me to try desoldering the top tank and fixing it? It does have some broken fins but other than the top tank seam leak its tight.

2. Where is the factory temp probe installed? The wire to mine is broken so I can't trace it and the I&T manual has no location mentioned.

3. I adjusted the valves and found 2-4 in the high teens and low 20s(.019-.025) but Cyl #1 ext was tight at somewhere around .005 any ideas why that one was so tight(carbon on the valve?) The intake valve was to loose like the rest.

Thanks for all your help everybody.

Edit Forgot to add that I threw in a NOS thermostat I had from my grandfathers stuff.

I would have the radiator upper tank removed and have it repaired. If you are capable of doing the task, so much the better.

The temperature gauge is mechanical. The sensor bulb is in the head, upper right rear corner.

Carbon under a valve should increase rather thandecrease the clearance.

The temp gauge is mechanical, and like mentioned is located at the rear or the head, just below the valve cover, on the right side.

I suggest one designed for the tractor, as opposed to a generic one as the "wire" is the right length. The generic ones leave you with a bunch of extra cable to tie up.

YT has one like this...
