Ford 3000 or 2000

Just got to looking at the serial numbers on the tractor today while doing some maintenance and they are as follows:B1023C 8H21B C214149.
Which should translate into a 2000 Ag All purpose with a gas engine and a live 540 8 spd tranny, made in August 21 1968 in the USA and the remainder being the serial number. But on most 2000's I have seen the spring for the level control is exposed and this one is not and also this tractor has a diesel engine. I guess the engine could have been swapped out as we have swapped the stearing column and other parts off of a 3000 parts tractor. I always considered it a 2000 due to the round trumpets on the rear. No real questions here just some observations of how tractors are labeled. Dad bought this tractor because he was told it was a 3000. Any thoughts?

Sounds like some mixes and matches definitely. All that you know from those stamped numbers on the transmission is what the tractor was that left the factory with that transmission installed in it.

The numbers on the transmission claim that it's got a gas engine but it really has a diesel, then either the
engine or the transmission was replaced at some point.

Since the rear axle has round trumpets, that says 2000, but the draft spring has the housing on it, which says 3000, so that top cover was not on that axle originally.

Since it's a diesel, what type of injector pump does it have? If it's got the Simms in line pump, then the engine's from a 3000, but if it has the CAV rotary pump it could from either a 2000 or a 3000.

Get the date codes off of all of the components and compare to see if you can reach a majority consensus.

Sound, yeah it does pretty much all I want just curious about the tractor. I want a larger tractor and will probably get a 4000 soon.

In addition to the exposed spring and round axles on a 2000 a couple of other small differences I have noticed.
I have never seen a 2000 that had the flow control knob and 2000 did not have an adjustable lift link on the left side of the 3 point. 3000 had both.

I have what i believe to be a 4000 im going to sell. It is a 4 cylinder diesel with a select o speed. I get fuel to the pump but nothing to the injectors. Tires are pretty good. Hood and grille is rusted out.

I know this tractor has the adjustable link on the left side. It is sounding like it is a mutt for sure. But that is okay.

Engine: E2 NN 6015 BY
Tranny: C5 NN 7006 By
Rear End: C5 NN 4024 U
It definitely looks like the engine was swapped out as the casting numbers are not even close. I do not know what the numbers mean. Hopefully some one can tell me. The tractor only has one fuel filter where I am use to 3000's having two. Thanks for all the replys.

I kind of take some pride in having one of the most cobbled up, wrongest 3000s on these boards.
3600 rear end, 3000 engine, 2000 front end, early tin, N fenders, LCG spindles and cheesey little car tires in front, cast iron oil pan, parts from a dozen different 2/3000s.

Those numbers are casting numbers which just tell you when the casting was designed and what type of part it is. The first character which is always a letter is the decade and the second character which is always a numeral is the yeaer within the decade. The "NN" in the 3rd and 4th positions just mean that they were designed by the Ford Tractor design engineers for the Ford Tractor Division. The next 4 characters tell you what part is is and the last one or two characters tells the design engineers what revision of the design it was.

Engine: E2 NN 6015 BY - E2 means the casting was designed in 1972 and the 6015 says that it is an engine block.

Tranny: C5 NN 7006 By - C5 says that the casting was designed in 1965 and the 7006 says that it's a transmission housing.

Rear End: C5 NN 4024 U - C5 says that the casting was designed in 1965 and 4024 says that it's a rear axle center housing.

Unless someone else has a tractor with the exact same casting numbers and replies you might not find out what model they were for aor wht year they were made with just those numbers.

There should also be other numbers that are a date code for when the component itself was assembled, and they look like the date code for the tractor itself. The first character is a numeral and tells you the year, and the next character is a letter which tells you the month and the next one or two characters are numerals which tell you the day of the month and there might be a last character that is a letter, A, B or C which tells you which shift it was assembled during on that day, so 0A23B would be January 23, 1970 during the day shift, and 8G3A would be July 3, 1968 during the midnight shift.

The only other numbers on the engine are HH2 5806.

There should be some numbers stamped in (not raised up) the flat rail just above the oil pan on the right side near the front of the engine. They're smaller in size than the other numbers you've posted and may be obscured or filled in by dirt or paint.
