My 3400 diesel with FEL currently has 14.9x24s on it. Tires are in good condition and have the heavy cast iron centers. I recently came across a set of 14.9x28s also in good condition, so just for the fun of it I tried them on for size. Don't know why but I like the look of the 28s better than the 24s so my question is...is there any advantage to the 24s' over the 28s? Are the 24s better for FEL work? Are the 28s better for field work? My tractor mainly helps me out with snow removal and some light FEL work. Thanks Dan

The 14.9-24 was generally used on the LCG tractors and had a different reduction ratio to compensate for use of the smaller tire. If you change to a 28" tire you'll probably find the tractor to be quite a bit faster. That may or may not be a problem to you...
The tractor itself would probably be better with the 28" tires provided the axle reduction is appropriate.
I think you'll also find the front spindles are shorter than standard on your tractor... so if you change to 28's it's not going to sit level.

Rod...I was kind of worried about the ground speed, the tractor has the 6-4 tranny so I"m limited on the slow side. I don"t do any tilling but i do some gravel grading and like to go real slow for that. I just can"t get past the way the 28s look, they fill the fenders up real nice. I have 7.5s on the front and didn"t notice if the tractor sat too far out of level or not. Guess i can just put the 28s on and run for awhile and see how I like it.Thanks for the input...Dan
