I"ve just come by this machine and don"t know Fords at all. (I"m and IH guy). It says FORD 800 ib the grille and looks early 60"s. Can you help me find a serial number or ID plate? It"s not apparent, but there"s a lot of grease to remove. Picture included. Thanks.

Stand on the left side of the tractor and place your left hand on the starter and your right hand on the clutch pedal, and right in front of your face should be the battery tray. Just below the battery tray there should be a flat spot that faces up and there should be 2 numbers stamped into that flat spot. The first one should be the model number and the second one should be the serial number.

Post those numbers back here and we can tell you what you've got.

800 is the series, and they were made from 1955 through 1957. The individual model would be 820, 830, 840, 850, or 860. The second digit tells you what options it had in terms of transmission and PTO and whether it had a 3 point lift or not.

Serial (and model) number is stamped on a flat, just above and to the rear of the starter. Your model number will be 3 digits, 8x0, with the x designating which transmission, PTO, and hydraulic options the tractor has. The numbers are hand-stamped, shallow, and often hard to find and read. The 800 series was made from late '54 through '57.

Got thru the dirt. Model # is clear: 861 Number below it (serial #?) is 7560 with an embossed mark either side of the 7560.

Very helpful. Can you recommend a good book with build dates, serial numbers, pictures as manufacturec, etc.

oh yeah you are right those are IMPOSSIBLE to swap.

tin NEVER gets changed. no one has ever mis ID'd a machine with wrong tin. :)

HALF or MORE of the fords from 43-64 i've EVER looked at wer emis id'd. most as jubilee!!

one of the 850's i have was an 801 according to the owner.. even after I showed hom the 850 ont he tranny. he actually got mad. :)

The 800 emblem is all metal. The 801 emblem was a round piece of plastic glued to a metal disc. The glue fails, the plastic emblem falls off leaving the metal disc attached to the hood and the owner replaces it with an 800 emblem. I have seen it numerous times. In fact my 851 SN 1002 was exactly like that when I bought it.
