I have a Ford 2000 3 cylinder gas that has a knock in the engine? Sounds like a rod knocking, I dropped the pan and plastigaged the Rod bearings and the front 3 mains. All of them are within spec. I pushed the pistons back up into the sheaves to see if there was any slop there nothing. I am at wits end on the engine. From doing the screwdriver sound test while the engine was running its from the rear part of the engine. Could it be the Oil pump? Hydraulic pump? It only knocks when it is trying to make power. Any change in PRM or taking off, or driving through the brakes it knocks. PLEASE HELP. How much slop should the drive for the oil pump have when the oil pump in removed??
Can I remove the rear main without messing up the rear main seal??

Mine ticks at idle.
Could yours be a loose flywheel? HTH. Everett

I have a "71 and asked the same thing about 2 years ago. At least 2 answers from 2000 owners indicated that this was normal to this engine, and mine is still ticking (and knocking) along. Good luck with your tractor.

If you remove a plug wire one at a time will eliminate a wrist pin. But remember this, this is a diesel convert, "high compression" timing being off could make a ticking. a valve being to tight could be contacting the piston...
