Ford 4000 industrial

Just bought a 19__ Ford 4000 industrial. Not sure what year it is. Tried to cross the model # but didn’t make sense to me. I can tell you that the tractor has the cast nose, loader and B70 hoe. I am looking for any incite into decoding the number it is 41401S / 4557. The number lists it as a non cast front end. I could not find a cross for the S. Any help would be great.

The model # should be for a heavy-duty industrial (not the iron nose) with a 4-speed, no lift or pto, and a Sherman aux. tranny.
I don't know about the other number.

Thanks, I came up with 172 gas, Industrial model after 1963, heavy duty with sub frame, 4 speed w/PTO can’t find the S Suffixe. Numbers also said not cast noise. To tell more about the tractor, it has the 3 point lift with PTO, full sub-frame, 172 gas front loader with bucket replaced and the cast noise. How would I tell if the noise was an add on, can that be done how could I tell?

A heavy duty industrial should, in fact, have a cast nose. A light industrial should have the same tin as the ag models. I have two of the latter.

Good luck.

Thanks, reb-in-pa that explains that. But does anybody know what the ( S ) was for in the modle number?

Hello Ryan , Where ever you are getting your info it is wrong , the number does list it as a cast front end . ALL HEAVY DUTY INDUSTRIALS have the CAST IRON NOSE PIECE on them . Unless your backhoe is not a Ford unit there is no such thing as a Ford B70 hoe either , it should be a 723 SERIES either with a 10 foot(model 19-299) , 12 foot(model 19-300) or 14 foot(model 19-301) dig depth . Your model number which you have most of it correct is 4 = 4000 172 gas or diesel , 1 = built after 1963( which has been wrong even in the Ford parts books for years, Serial Numbers 1001 - 11948 were built between Aug. 1962 and Dec 1962 and were sold as 1962 tractors)(your tractor was built in Sept 1962) , 40 = HEAVY DUTY INDUSTRIAL(all with cast iron nose) , 1 = THREE POINT PTO with 4SPEED TRANS. , S = Sherman transmission but can be either a COMBO or a MANUAL REVERSING trans. , Your loader will be a Series 712 Model number 19-332 . Thanks Tony

Tony, Thanks I think that nails it. The loader is a 712 model 19-332. The back hoe is a Kelley B70 with a 12-6 dig depth. Im adding picures. the question i still have is the guy that bought it says its a 64 and bought it in 64. Could the ford dealer at that time say that just to sell it? Can i still get parts for it. And it has the heavy duty Linco 4x4 front end.

Hello Again Ryan , The 1962 and the 1964 tractors look identical and so did the 1965 so the dealer could have said anything and would have gotten away with it , Yes you can still get parts for the tractor and I own the ELENCO PRODUCTS CO. I make the parts for the 4x4 front axle . Where are you located ? the GMC pickup looks to have Maine plates on it ? I also have quite a few Heavy Duty Industrials with Elenco's on them . A 1958 , 2 1959's , a 1963, 1964 and a 1965 , all of mine except the 1963 have three point and pto on them also , one of the 1959's and the 1963 and 1964 are backhoe ready . They are very tough tractors . Thanks Tony

Yes I live in Maine. Where r you? I need a couple of things to bring it back the Power Steering leaks and does not work well. Also needs a gas tank, cant find any new with sending unit holes. Any suggestions? Thanks Again.
