Leaking head gasket

Howdy,
I'm new here. I just bought a 1956 660. It appears to be leaking antifreeze at the base of the head. The previous owner told me he had the head rebuilt. My question is, can I just retorque the head? Or do ao need to install a new gasket to stop this leak?

Will not hurt to try, but if it has been doing that for very long not likely to work because the gasket may have eroded enough to not have any thing there to seal it with. Now if the guy you got it from did not re-torque the head after warming it up and it has not run a whole lot then re-torquing the head may work

GComo,
A few other things to consider.
These are low pressure systems. The radiator cap should be 4 LBS. Check to be sure that a high pressure cap was not installed.
I would try some stop leak if the leak is not too bad. Way less time involved than changing out the head gasket. (This would not work if the leak is real bad though)

ditto what old said.... if you do repalce the head gasket.. go with the fellpro.

the entire head set is HS7761B-2

Had a head gasket on my IH C leak. I replaced it. However, where it leaked really wasn't a problem. The antifreeze seaped down the side of the engine. No antifreeze got in the oil. No biggie. I will add stop leak the next time it happens. Will run without a pressured rad cap until the stop leak works.

Where mine leaked, the antifreeze was less than 1/4 inch from the outside of the block. I think the gasket may have gotten damaged by using a pressure on the engine. My lesson learned, is I will never use a pressure washer on a tractor again.

Thanks for the info guys. I"m going to try re torquing the head. And I"ll throw in some stop leak for good measure.
