SOS problem

Have an 801 with the later DDC trans. (original was replaced years ago)Was mowing today, stopped to shift to reverse and inching pedal collapsed. Torque limiting clutch centers broken? I read in the IT manual that the later SOS has multiple discs, and there is an inching pedal return spring. I have the Ford shop manual supplement for DDC model transmission also. Any help diagnosing is appreciated.

Does pto still work? If does torque limiter splines/hub rivets are not sheared. Springs are known to break so Id put in neutral or first and lift up on inch pedal and see if moves.

Sounds like the inching pedal return spring has broken. The spring is under the transmission top cover.. Hope you have a shop manual. Don't remove the top without it.. Could fashion a screen door return spring on the pedal in stead of replacing the internal one.

Yep, as others said, spring is under cover. I've also had the pin that pins the pedal to the pivot shaft shear. You might wish to check that out first. It's a whole lot easier fix than a spring in under the cover.

Just to let you guys know...bungy cord on pedal to hold it up and it moves! Still have to take off the top to repair, but could have been MUCH worse. Good time to change oil and filter. If I could only find one...anybody have one to sell? Thanks for the replies.

sounds like an inching pedal spring. I've done one before, wasn't bad except for the little spool valve that broke 'cause I didn't have everything lined up when I tried to put it back together and the day and a half I spent trying to get the pieces out of the transmission. Might not of had that adventure if I had a manual, but if I had a manual I'd probably been to scared to attempt fixing it.
