641 throttle not staying put

I was mowing pastures this past weekend and after about an hour and a half, my 641's throttle didn't want to stay at rpms sufficient to keep the rotary mower blade cutting. The engine would surge and slow, physically moving the throttle (slowing to about 1/3 rpms of what I wanted). I finished the pasture holding the throttle where I wanted it.

Could anyone help with how I should proceed? Is it a throttle/spring matter, the engine or something else?

Thanks!!

If you look under the battery box you will find a part of the throttle linkage that has a kind of star washer on it with a nut on a stud on the top of the bellhousing. There should be a cotter pin in the castle nut, just take it out and tighten the nut til the throttle stays where you want it. There is a friction disk under the linkage and that is the adjustment for your problem. Hopefully the friction disk isn't too worn out or oily, hard to get out with the battery box in place is all, disk is cheap and easy to buy. Greg NE

I'll look into the friction disk. I also found another post on YT which has me wondering if the throttle linkage spring has failed.

Thanks Greg!!
