What size of rear tire came on a 5000 high platform? A friend got one that came with a 16.9x34 on one side an a 18.4x34 on the other. Want to get the right size on it before it ruins the rearend.

Either one will work... 16.9-34 would have been the more likely of the two tho. Best thing is to measure the wheel from inside bead to inside bead surface. If it's 15" or wider go with an 18.4. If it's a 13 or 14" wheel, go with a 16.9
I wouldn't get too excited about it harming the tractor having mismatched tires. That's what differentials are for... The bigger reason to change would be the fact that the tractor is not level.

MBray,
Also consider your use of the tractor. If you will be plowing with it, you need to keep the width witin 2 inches of the furrow width (Max 16.9 for 14 inch plows, 18.4 if 16 inch). If you are going to be disking, the 18.4's are better.
As Rod said make sure of the width of the rim first.
My 7000 row crop had 18.4 x 34's on it.
