Ford 881 diesel will not start

My Ford 881 turns over, but it will not start. I have not started it for 3-4 years without . There is fuel in the tank, but it is old. Where is the best place to drain the fuel? Is there a way to test that the injector is working? I had the injector rebuilt about 5 years ago.

Thanks,
Allen

Diconnect the fuel line between the filter and injector pump and allow all of the fuel to drain. Remove the cover off of the timing window on the pump and allow it to drain. Reinstall timing window cover and reconnect fuel line. Replace filter. Add new fuel. Disconnect each injector line at the injector and crank engine over until fuel squirts out of each line. Reconnect injector lines. My 861D will start right up with a shot of ether. Some don't have any luck and have to pull start the tractor but you can't do that with the SOS.

After setting that long you may have injection pump trouble as metering, delivery valves, pressure regulator an plungers may be stuck from stale fuel. Just repaired a JD pump that had been unused for awhile, worked fine after a complete cleaning.

Don't forget that it will crank for hours without starting at 95% of the adequate cranking speed. Are you boosting it from your truck while cranking?
