Hi,

I have what I think is a 1986 555B Backhoe.
Can someone please help me verify this?
I am about to buy a service manual, but I want to be sure that I buy one for the correct model.

S/N is: B275845

Can you find the unit number? Should be right near
the serial number. The unit number is a date code...
will tell year, month, day and shift it was built.

The model number is DF111Z. As lfc said, DF1 is the model designator for a 550 Industrial. The model number for a 555B would start with DF8. The rest of the model number says that it has a diesel engine and no PTO, but I'm not sure what transmission is designated by the Z at the end though. I would be interested in knowing what transmission it has so I can add to my reference material.

The 550 with the DF1 designator was made from 1/75 to late '76. They continued to make the 550 through 1978, but in late '76 the model designator changed from DF1 to DF2.

Since it is a 550, the unit number 6B10B says that it was made on February 10, 1976 during the day shift. That serial number, B275845, is a Basildon, UK serial number, and it would be about right for a 1976 tractor, and way too low for a 1986 tractor.

The machine has a 4-speed gearbox with converter, "power reversing transmission?".
It also has the digger unit with side-shift.
I have a service manual of the 550/555, but there is no information on the side-shift unit there.
Maby it has been changed to a newer one somewere down the line...

The side-shift backhoe shows up in my sales
literature from the '70's, but that's about all I
can tell you about it. They were optional.
