801 Power Steering

Finally had time last weekend to get a gauge on the PS pump, had 800 PSI @ 1000 RPMs. Here is a recap of where I am at:
1. Occurred suddenly, lost power steering
2. Power steering does operate when front wheels are off the ground
3. Gauge check of pressure is 800 PSI.

Any suggestions where to go from here? I really hate the idea of tearing into the steering column as this tractor has an industrial loader attached and and it is in the way of anything you try to do.

With adequate pump pressure (hot oil?) there is little that can cause PS failure aside from the control valve.

Oil was cold, the fact that the PS does work with no load, does this say the control valves are OK?

I have not loosened a cylinder to see if I can move it by hand. This is likely a next step rather than getting into the steering column? As I stated previously, with the loader on and the SOS, the steering column is darn near a fate worse than death.

No.

If it builds system pressure as you state, there is little else aside fromt he control valve that can cause loss of PS.

How did you test the pressure? Did you use a gauge in line with a loop of hose with a shutoff valve as someone suggested on another thread a few days ago? If so, then a blown seal internal to one or both of the steering cylinders could be the cause of the problem, and the control valve might not be at fault.
