3600 Gasser Fuel tank sending unit

I replaced the instrument cluster in my 3600 gas tractor and now the fuel gage doesn't work. I was told by a couple of people that the sending unit might not be compatible with the new gage. I have purchased a new sending unit and I am getting ready to install it and was wondering if there are any secrets to replacing it. Any help would be appreciated I did buy a new locking ring for it. Thanks for any help

Did you check the old sending unit first? It's a pretty simple reostat that you could check with a cheap VOM.

No I didn't how would I do that?

There are two spade clips on the top of it. Connect one side of the VOM to each clip and move the the float up and down. You should get different Ohm readings.

Ultradog, Just wanted to let you know I got my fuel gage working on me 3600. It was a combination of the sending unit and a bad wire from the sending unit to the gage it is working good all is well life is good in Indiana. Thanks for your help.
