Hydraulic tubes

I bought a 4 cylinder Ford 2000 with 4 speed trans. The hyd 3
point arms did not work and transmission was leaking fluid out
the top. I have removed both the pressure and suction metal
lines from the transmission. Both lines are in bad shape. I do
not want to try driving new lines inside the old lines. Has
anyone used the new replacement lines that Walt's in Mexico,
Missouri sells? I would appreciate any info related to the
difficulty of installation. Do you have to do any modification to
the tubes or use any special lubrication or sealing product?
Has anyone machined new tubes with success or know of
another supplier of new tubes.

A few members have tried the tubes from Walts. They are uniform diameter tubes, not the stepped tubes that are needed. In other words, they need to be machined before you drive them in.

I know John Smith has successfully made tubes, you might try contacting him (www.oldfordtractors.com)

Kurt- Last year I thought about having a few made. I saw a diagram that somebody posted on here with the correct specs. I found the blanks to make the tubes in McMasters. Went to the local VoTech school and talked to the instructor. Show him the diagram and he said he could turn out a few at no cost.

I did not have him do it because of other things going on. But, I know where to go if I do end up needing some.

Greg, I remember the posts. I have a copy of the drawing of the tube, but I am uncertain of the source or accuracy. If I had the tranny out, I could measure the holes and easily make the tube. Maybe someday I'll try, but for now my 5 speed is sleeved and leak free.

I got mine (5speed) from John he once said he make make some to sale, walts will not work you have to press them to tell you they need machined

I know you can remove them with out a split and right sure you can install them with out a split. That being said it makes me wonder why anyone would sleeve them while they were in the trans. Their you go i told you its not hard to remove them I see no reason to struggle anymore.

Your drawing is a 4 speed

[/quote]or completeness, do you have dimensions for 5 speed?

JMOR

Its not my drawing, I'm not sure who did it. I picked it up somewhere along the way. I hope the author stops by. I would love to give him credit.

Some day we'll get the 5 speed dimensions. I wish I had taken some when I had my 660 split. But I don't think it would be too hard to reach inside from the front a get a length to the center hole, that's the only really critical dimension except for the diameters and overall length. The others are easy to guess.

Oh, I can farmerize with the best of them. I just don't tell anybody about it. When I was growing up we had the worst old junk cars you could imagine and no money. Dad (ex farmer)could patch up anything with nothing. He always said when you don't have what you need, you get by with what you've got. And he did. And I helped and paid attention.
