New wiring 12 volt Jubilee

Having issues with all new wiring. My tractor burned (don't ask) so I
am rewiring it and converted to electronic ignition and 12 volt
system. The alternator is a single wire alt. Just as a test I was going
to see if I could get the engine to turn over but as soon as I hooked
up the battery it turned over- I did not push the start button and I
don't have a keyed switch yet (I was just going to touch two wires to
make the loop). I even disconnected the push button wire to the
solenoid, still turns over. What gives? Also do I still need the 6 volt
voltage regulator ?

As Old said, stuck solenoid is most likely the cause.
I have had a couple bad right out of the package recently.
You can tap on it with a screwdriver handle to see if it will release.
There also may be a small push button on the bottom of it you can
try pressing and releasing a few times to see if it will release.
No, you don't need the old VR with an alternator.
If you have a standard GM type internally regulated alternator you
don't need an external VR at all.

if it burned.. solenoid is probably stuck and shorted.

why'd ya need a 6v vreg module for a genny if you are putting an alt on.. eh?

Not sure how you have it wired but here's one diagram courtesy of Keven LaRue that you may want to compare with your set up.

ohm test - 1. mark wires then remove them. cannot have anypower on terminals for ohm test. measure from one small post to the other small post (this is the coil). the ohmmeter should read some small ohms. maybe 2-30. then measure from one larege post to other large post (this is the contacts). should read infinity, or open. post back with any readings other than this.

Tim, his Jubilee should have a three wire solenoid with only one small post.
The coil hooks between the small post and the large post on the battery side.
The measurements are the same as you posted, just one less terminal. :)

I think it might be the solenoid. I have .2 ohms no mater what combination of posts I touch (3 post). I have tapped it and pressed the button on the bottom. I have the starter wire to one side, nothing to the small post, and when I touch the battery wire to the opposite post it turns over.

Definitely doesn't sound right. Do you have a spare one?
If not, some guys have had some luck taking it apart, un-sticking
it and putting it back together.
If that is the one that was in the fire, I'd bite the bullet and get
a new one.
