Golden Jubilee value

I have a chance to purchase a GJub. No price set at the moment. Owner says the hydraulic unit does not work, but the tractor will start. He claims the hydraulic pump needs a new gear. Engine supposedly in good shape (older rebuild).I know this isn't much info, but how much should I discount his asking price because of the hydraulics? Thank you.

If you can rebuild the pump and cure the problem, $50. If you buy a used pump and install it, and it solves the problem, $150-200. If you buy a newly rebuilt pump and install it, and it solves the problem, $350-400. If you have to take the top cover off and replace cam follower pin, o-rings, and seals, and you do your own work, another $50. If you pay a dealer to take the top cover off, etc., many hundreds.

Good luck.

and if it's one of the rted headed stepchoild hyd parts unde rthat cover that ONLY fit an NAA, and is NLA.. then many hundreds of dollars there too.

Assuming the problem is indeed the pump, on the NAA/Jube the hydraulic pump is on the side of the engine and is driven from the flywheel. If it's the older Vane style it will be nearly impossible to replace/fix/rebuild. If it's the piston-style you can get rebuild kits. You can replace a Vane pump with the more common Piston pump but to do so you will need replacement hydraulic lines which are very hard to find.

The amount of discount depends upon the asking price. An average condition, everything working, NAA will only bring $1500-$2000 around here. If he's asking $3000 you need at least a $2000 discount. If he's asking $500 you need to pay him and load it on your trailer.

I have a jubilee. If I knew then what I know now, I would have purchased a newer ford with live PTO and power steering. The jubilee has more power than it's sister the 8n.

I had to rebuild my hyd pump. It's a piston pump. CHN wanted $2800 for a new pump. NO THANK YOU.

You have no way of knowing if the hyd pump gear is bad or the gear inside the engine.

I do my own repairs. I personally would stay from the old stuff that's not working as it should.

Buy new goodyear rubber for an old tractor and you will have more in it than you can sell it for.

I gotta agree with George.
Hold out for a newer tractor.
A 55 and later Ford will get you improved hydraulics, improved rear axle, plus the possibility of live PTO and PS.
