Does anyone know if a 8sp trans from a 72 ford 2000 will fit a 66 ford 2000 with the 5sp trans. Both tractors are the 3 cylinder models. The housing look the same but I dont know about the shafts. Can anyone tell me if the input/output shafts will match up. Thanks for a the help

Yeah I wouldn't call it a 5sp either but that seems
to be what everyone else calls it. It has 4 forward
and 1 reverse gears. A total of five gears.

'they' are mistaken.

'they' may be mistaking the fact that previous model 2000's from 63-64 DID have an option for a 5spd trans.

trans speeds are always referred to as forward and then reverse. or generically as forward gears only.

ie.. 8/2 10/2 6/4 or a 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 8 etc.

you will be going from a single stage clutch to a dual.

i'd think you may need the flywheel from the 8spd.. MAYBEE. I've not done the swap and am not as mucha 3 cyl guy as a 4 cyl.

as for output. easy to tell.. check the parts manual and see if the pinion coupler is the same part number. if not.. you can split 2 and weld and make it work.

pto shaft will be the same..e tc.

Yes it will interchange but you will need more than just the transmission.
You will need the flywheel and clutch/s, pto coupler, pto shaft and pto engage lever.
If you have all those parts it is an easy swap.
