Hi, I got a 1960 Ford Workmaster 641 that wound start. I"m not seeing any spark. I have put a new set of points in and still no spark. Battery is fully charged, but the tractor turns over slow. Tried to pull start it and would not fire. Any ideas? Thanks

Do you have battery voltage to the coil?
If so, what's on the distributor side of the coil?
It should be zero when the points are closed,
battery voltage when they're open.
If it is always zero, the points aren't opening,
something in the distributor is grounded or
less likely, a bad coil.
If it is always battery voltage, the points aren't closing/making contact.
Turning over slow is often dirty battery cable connections.
Either on the battery or where they connect to the tractor.
Let us know what you find.

First off try this. Pull the distributor cap rotor and dust cover. With the ignition on try opening and closing the point by hand carefully or you will get a shock. You should both see and hear a spark at the points. If you do not you either have a short or the points need to be cleaned. You can also remove the ignition side of the coil wire and touch it on and off the coil with the points open. If you get a spark there then you have a short and you did something wrong when you installed the new points

if it is rolling over slow.. you may have a near dead bat.. and or bad cables, connections and ground.

check with a good battery.. even your truck battery.

jump power right to the coil. see if it helps...

Check to make sure the wire between the coil and the points is not grounded where it passes thru the dist housing (a frequent problem). If it is six volts, charge up the battery and then MAKE SURE THE TRACTOR IS IN NEUTRAL and with the ignition on jump with 12 volts directly to the starter.

Thanks for the ideas. I found spark at the distributor by opening the points by hand. Put power to the coil and got no spark. Think coil is bad. I am converting the tractor to 12 volt, I have ordered the kit and a 12 volt coil. Any advice on how to install everything? Thanks
