I have a Ford 5000 8 speed and the main shift lever spins. There is a pin they say is worn and needs to be replaced. I have all the bolts out of the top cover but cannot get the top cover broke loose. How to break lose the top cover and any helpful hints on replacement of the pin in shifter.

becareful of the springs and balls at the rear of cover. the pin is a simple rivet that sticks in one side of the ball on the shifter. I have seen them worn smooth and very difficult to fine so look closely. pull the shift lever out of cover and replace the pin, carefull making sure both levers are lined up with the shift gates when you reinstall. It make take a time or two to get it right.

That happened on a 5000 rowcrop I had...but the pin was -outside- of the top cover. Tapped it almost out, drop of Loc-Tite and tapped it back in.

Thanks for the help. See what I can get done, I have bought the replacement pin. This is a 1968 tractor and having problems getting top shifter plate loose after 45 years or whatever. Thanks again.
