4 speed power reversing trans no foward or reverse

Hi all new to this forum was wondering if anyone ever ran across this before and maybe point me in the right direction.

Have a 72 ford 4500 backhoe 4 speed auto reversing trans and the other day was pushing some stone stopped backed up put it back in forward and no go. Sits there like its in neutral. I can feel the control rod moving back and forth like it is going from forward to reverse. At first I thought it may have been the linkage. The roll pin came out once before but upon further inspection it was fine and the selector rod going through the bell housing case seems to be rotating normal.

Normally when I would shift the gear shifter from first to second, third or fourth If I would leave the direction lever in forward or reverse it would grind if I tried to put it in a different gear. Now it can be in froward or reverse and it feels like its shifting but it does not grind.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

And Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Are you sure it's in the torque converter/tranny end?
It might be worth opening an inspection cover on the rear end housing to make sure you didn't blow the splined coupler between the tranny output and pinion shaft or something else in the rear end.

On the bottom of the bell housing is a small access plate. Under it is a tube with a fitting on the end. It is for a pressure test gauge. Testing the pressure will tell you if the pump is still working. Not much but something to try.

Its not making any noise at all so I am sure the drive plate is fine. Had this apart about four years ago and bought an overhaul kit and a new converter, pump Probably only have maybe a hundred hours at the most on it. Once the blocker valve stuck on me but if i remember right it had me stuck in forward could not select reverse.

But so I checked the fluid the day this all happened it was low so i took it up to the level. Just noticed today I used the hyd.oil for my 12000lb car lift its
ISA 46 fluid Not my trans hydro oil It has been ran with this oil in it so it is all through the system. what is the proper steps in flushing this all out.

once again thanks for any input
