4000 4 Cyl Backfires won,t start New Points,Plugs

my 1964 4000 won"t start>New Plugs,Points Cond.Cap rotor month old Ran and started first rev. after I put them in.fresh fuel timing seems to be correct. hits every ounce and a while but will not start Help

Check your rotor you may find it is a bad China almost right one. Or maybe the points slipped on you

I would suspect the points are not opening. The bar may have worn down from lack of lubrication, or the screw came loose.

Make sure and put a dab of grease on the rotation side of the wear bar.

Just happened to me I had a defective set of points. Put the old ones back in and it runs like a top.

see if the clip is present under the rotor.. or if the rotor is sloppy on the shaft.

if so.. pull the plugs and do a thumb test on them. might have some sticky intake valves..

Had an 857 that did the same thing - distributer shaft was worn - ran great after replacing

Bad Dist. shaft-Gear slipping on bottom of shaft!!! Pin must be broke!!!! thanks All for your help!!!!!
