Lurking around...

Hello one and all. I usually hang around the Fergy board and mightb even dribble into the 8N section.
The wife let me pick up a Ford 881 Diesel. I got the 172 CID block down to the machine shop and the bore is shot and the outer wall has 3 cracks mostly around the "freeze" plugs.
I am on the far side of the world in Oregon.
Anyone might have a fair looking block?
naturally this is on a kool aid budget. I can"t afford ber anymore. I can"t even afford to spel it correctly either! :)
Well this hole in my foot has set me back a bit and I am still trying to gather my wits.

You might get off a lot cheaper picking up a complete running engine somewhere. Gas or diesel. I see complete engines selling for less than the cost of a replacement block and a rebuild. If I see something in your area I'll let you know.

Howdy Bruce,
Glad to see you made it over from NTC.
A friend of mine has a 172 diesel block. It needs to be sleeved but he could have that done for you pretty reasonably. Have it cleaned and magnafluxed before it went out too. He parted out an 1811.
In Minneapolis.
Maybe look at the hauling board here at YT to find reasonable shipping.

Bruce, if you take UD up on that block in Minneapolis, you might want to check with Paladin. He says he has a hauler making a west coast trip soon. Maybe he'd have room to bring you that block. The hauler will be stopping here in Utah on the way back to haul some early 9N parts back to PA.

Got a lead on one that fits the bu(stead)dget.
Monday it goes to the machine shop and see if it has cracks. Time to price a parts supplier. Be it here, as I did for the wife"s TO-20, or some where else.
