960- Sherman

Does anyone know if a Sherman transmission can be installed in a 1955 960? I was just given a Sherman and my son has a 960 that he uses on a back-up style snow blower. The reverse travel speed is to fast and requires one to ride the clutch... When I install the new clutch it will be the right time to install the Sherman if possible or trade the 960 for something that travels slower.

No. The Sherman only works with the 4 speed transmissions. The 960 has a 5 speed.

Change the transmission to a 4 speed, related stuff and install the Sherman and you are good to go.

The 960 has a double clutch, giving you "live" PTO.
Just something to consider if you modify it.

Sherman is not an option. Even if it would work with a five speed, which it will not, it would slow down the snowblower as well as the ground speed.

a clutch is not meant to be a speed control device. riding it to constantly reduce speed will eat it.

sherman pre trannies work with no 5spd trans..
