Looking for opinions on the Ford 1600. What should one look for on something like this? Are there parts issues with this model? There is one going up for auction at an estate sale this weekend near me, the only tractor in the sale. It has turf tires in decent condition, 2 cyl. diesel and around 2,000 + hours on the meter. Looks a bit rough but not too bad. I've not heard it run. It appears to have been used with a 3pt finish mower, a blade and a tiller (these are in the sale too). Value? Tractor house dot com has just a few, from $2,500 up to $5K + with loader. Would a used loader be hard to find?

Sorry for all the last minute questions, my experience is with a 9N and 8N, haven't dealt with a diesel since the Fordson Dexta we had back on the farm (40 some years ago!).

The 1600 was a 1st generation compact diesel for
Ford. Expect what parts are available to be very
pricey, and expect a lot of parts to be listed as
'NLS' (no longer serviced). I'd look for newer... or
a real Ford.

I concur with Fordfarmer"s comments. The 1600 is a Shibaura (Japanese) built tractor. Parts are often hard to find, and very expensive.

I"ve had one for about year and a half now. From what I"ve experieced and seen on here, Parts are few, far between and expensive when you do find them. Not a bad little machine for what it is. Does not have PS or Live PTO. Top speed is about 9 MPH. Mine has a loader on and it is pretty heavy on the nose. Would make a decent little estate tractor. About 20 hp.

I've owned my for 18 years . i knew the guy who owned it before me. he bought it used at a auction. the only thing outside of general up keep, is i replaced the water pump twice. i use it for mowing with a bush hog ,grading the drive , plow the garden, even pulled a hay wagon .it's real dependable .i steers easy pto works great. i wouldn't take 5k for mine. john

I'd not spend any more on it than you're comfortable placing on the blackjack table....

It'll be an OK tractor until something major craps out on it and you can't find parts. Then you're sitting on 200 bucks worth of scrap iron. Viewed in this context, bought cheap enough... it could be a great little tractor.
